Who I Am and What I Will Write

by | Oct 25, 2019 | About Me | 0 comments

Hello there! Thank you for checking this page, I appreciate your attention to me personally, not just to my posts and information I share. And I’m happy to share a little more about who I am and why I started this blog.

My name is Cecilia.  I am from Shanghai, the largest city in China and  I am now living in London with my husband and working as a fashion and textile designer for many years.  After being in the fashion industry for a long time, I started to realize there are so many similar fashion products on the market from fast fashion brands.  They are so obsessed with fast trends and they are all fall in the scarcity of being left out of the trend.  So the result is, everyone is doing the same products and try to compete with other brands that what everyone else has, we should have it.

It is really different from what I understand, or what I value the whole concept about fashion.  Fashion to me is a way to experience ourselves, to find the uniqueness in every individual’s soul. Where we’ve born, how we been raised up,  what music we are listening to, which pub we go to the most, all these little details in our lives can reflect on how we dress.  In more practical prospect,  we all have different skin tones, different body shape and how we feel ‘comfortable’ and ‘confidence’ are all different.  There is no way to let all of us wear the same clothes. So why we should design and sell the same fashion products in all the shops then just try to catch up on ‘trend’ then?

UnPaired Design Studio

After I decided that I don’t want to follow the rules anymore, I start to look for a business idea that can represent who I am and where I come from, to enjoy the fun of design and creation but also keep naturally sustainable in mind.

In ancient Chinese philosophy, everything human take from nature will be, somehow, returned to nature at the end to complete the circulation of the universe. The concept of “Something Naturalism, Something Humanism, and Something Orientalism” finally makes UnPaired Design Studio alive.   Natural fibre created scarves and accessories is the key to the brand.  I enjoy to play around with colour and texture between different prints and material and telling some interesting stories from my experience of life.

I draw from what I see during my journey when travelling and use modern technology to design and develop these drawings into scarves and accessories.  I sourced the best material and craftsmanship from the home of silk, Hangzhou City in China to make these ideas into reality.
